Stockinvest.us is a stock trading platform designed for swing traders. Using short-term technical data and a variety of other tools, Stockinvest.us has garnered a large following. Is this platform right for your swing trading? Read to find out.
Introduction To Stockinvest.us
Stockinvest.us is a trading platform targeted at helping swing traders identify potentially profitable buys and sells. The platform operates entirely on short-term technical data, using a set of under-the-hood algorithms to identify common trading patterns and to assign buy and sell scores to individual stocks. For the relatively modest price, the attention that Stockinvest.us draws to trades through its indicator lists can be helpful for busy and distracted day traders. However, it’s worth noting that most of the features that Stockinvest.us provides can be achieved by setting up alerts in most advanced charting software packages.
Stockinvest.us Pricing Options
Stockinvest.us has a single pricing tier and costs 19.90/month or $199/year. There is also a five-day free trial for new users to try out the software. When you first sign up for the free trial, Stockinvest.us offers 20% off a plan for up to 24 hours.
Buy and Sell Lists
The primary feature of Stockinvest.us is a series of lists of stocks that are exhibiting several important short-term technical indicators or that are scored as potential buys or sells by the platform’s algorithms. Stockinvest.us splits its list into buy lists and sell lists.
Under buy lists, the first list to look at is the “Top 100 Buy” list. This simply shows the top 100 scoring stocks at any given time, as rated for buying by Stockinvest.us’s algorithms. It’s important to note that there is very little rationale given behind the scores listed – Stockinvest.us does not have any explainers about how their algorithms work, either included with this list or elsewhere on the platform. Helpfully, there is also an option to filter stocks by not only their score but also by the number of days that the stock has been rated favorable. That helps to identify stocks that have given continued signals, rather than potential anomalies.
Other buy lists offered by Stockinvest.us are based more closely on technical indicators that are commonly used as buy signals by day traders. For example, there are watchlists that alert traders to stocks exhibiting potential double bottoms and pivot bottoms. There is also a watchlist for “Golden Star” indicators. The Golden Star is not fully explained but seems to be related to the common golden cross signal. In any case, it is important to keep in mind that algorithms create all of these watchlists, and all technical patterns should be thoroughly investigated before trading.
On the sell side, there is similarly a “Top 100 Sell” list that uses the platform’s algorithmic scoring system to identify potential trade setups. For bearish indicators, watchlists focus in on double tops and death crosses.
Stockinvest.us offers several additional lists for traders to use, although these are of questionable helpfulness and are not beyond the scope of a simple stock scan. For example, there are lists showing stocks that have an RSI over 70 or under 30 using either the 14-day or 21-day RSI.
Stockinvest.us recently added the ability for users to create their own watchlists, similar to other stock scanning tools. The watchlist builder is heavily focused on technical indicators and includes filters for such indicators as RSI, a current Bollinger Bands buy or sell signal, and moving average crossovers. The main addition relative to other indicator-focused stock scanners is the ability to also filter based on the score that Stockinvest.us’s algorithms assign to a stock.
Individual Stock Ratings
Another potentially useful feature for swing traders is the information provided on each individual stock’s page. Stockinvest.us’s stock viewer gives a rapid and concise overview of the stock, complete with its algorithmic score and a buy/sell/hold rating (similar to Finbox or Zacks). The included charts do not allow for any customization. Still, they do a nice job of calling out technical indicators such as moving average crossovers, Bollinger Bands breaks, and pivot points. To some extent, these charts may allow insight into how and why the Stockinvest.us algorithm has rated a stock a certain way.
Another noteworthy feature included in Stockinvest.us is the ability to view and make predictions about future price action for individual stocks.
Essentially, users can predict whether a stock will trend positive or negative over both one- and three-week timeframes and even include a price prediction. Users can also request predictions on stocks that they are interested in to solicit predictions from the Stockinvest.us community.
This prediction capability adds a social aspect to the platform, which some users may appreciate and which may be helpful for more novice traders. However, these predictions are likely of questionable value overall and will likely not be used by more experienced day or swing traders.
Stockinvest.us also offers a handful of automated portfolios, which are generated based on the algorithm and a standard stock scan. While these portfolios can be helpful, there is no way to copy and modify them into a personal watchlist.
Layout and Customization
Stockinvest.us has a clean browser-based interface that makes it easy to navigate the site no matter where you are on it. All of the signal lists can be found in a single drop-down menu at the top of the page, and there is a search bar for getting more information on an individual stock.
While Stockinvest.us relies heavily on technical indicators, it is worth reiterating that this is not a charting platform. None of the charts can be customized in timeframe or the technical data displayed, so traders will need to pair any scoring or technical analysis made by the platform with a more advanced charting software for verification.
Thankfully, traders can create an unlimited number of custom watchlists. This is again a feature that most other stock scanning platforms are capable of. Still, the added advantage to watchlists in Stockinvest.us is that all stocks in a watchlist are conspicuously rated with an algorithmic score to indicate whether the platform recommends buying, selling, or holding.
Stockinvest.us Platform Differentiators
Stockinvest.us is at its heart a stock scanner with a special emphasis on short-term technical indicators. In contrast to other stock scanners, there are very few filters or lists based on stock fundamentals. In addition, Stockinvest.us uses a series of poorly explained algorithms to give each stock a buy, sell, or hold score and to identify when stocks develop common technical chart patterns. Altogether, these features blend the functionality of a technical charting platform with built-in alerts, stock scanners, and advanced technical watchlists.
One other feature that differentiates Stockinvest.us is the ability for users to request and offer predictions for how individual stocks will trend in the coming weeks. While this feature is unique and adds a social aspect to the platform, it is likely of limited use for serious traders.
What Type of Trader is Stockinvest.us Best For?
Stockinvest.us is specifically designed for day and swing traders. There is almost no fundamental stock analysis of the kind favored by long-term value investors, and most of the technical analyses used in the platform appear to apply over a period of days or weeks.
That said, Stockinvest.us may be best for novice to intermediate traders who are in need of trading ideas rather than expert traders. The reason for this is that expert traders are likely to be annoyed by the lack of explanation of the platform’s algorithms, which in turn requires verification of signals in a more advanced charting software. Many advanced traders will be able to mimic a majority of the features of Stockinvest.us in a charting platform with built-in alerts or with their existing stock scanner software.
- Quick identification of potential trades based on algorithmic scores
- Focus on technical chart patterns, such as double tops and bottoms and golden and death crosses
- Assigns every stock a buy/sell/hold rating with numerical value
- Allows users to create their own watchlists and scans
- Relatively inexpensive
- Algorithms are not well explained and time periods of analyses are unclear
- Most features can be mimicked by advanced charting software and stock scanners
- Price prediction function has very little use for serious traders
